My Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
And I am back in on Lydia Drake. While I didn't love the second in this series, The Governess and the Duke is everything historical romance readers want in a book.
Opening with the "class difference" trope, seasoned with a touch of "tragic pasts," readers go on an adventure with our fair protagonist and her precocious charge. Once the plot had dropped us in the Duke's house (mostly unattended!) a gentle dusting of "parent-trap" occurs. Featuring all manner of hijinks, getting caught in rainstorms and self-sacrificing heroines, our protagonists stumble their way to an HEA.
The entire book is fairly low-stakes, with a slightly contrived backstory (though we forgive because who doesn't like a bit of "tough her and die") and a fun read for genre fans.
