Mantras & Minotaurs by Ashley BennettMy Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
This is probably my favorite in the series so far. The whole series is low-drama, high spice, cozy HEAs and Bennett does it perfectly here. While not a ton of new ground here is tread (these are comfort reads through and through), the addition of older protagonists felt like a breath of fresh air. I have been a little underwhelmed by a few recent romances, mostly because what seems fun and flirty at 20 feels exhausting at 40. Seeing characters with grown children and mature lives still get the sexy thrill of a whirlwind romance was a delight. The age also shorthands a lot of the aspects that we often have to hand-wave away to make romances work. The main characters have the time/money/emotional intelligence/resources to streamline a dream relationship because they have already done the boring bits of adult life like raising kids, going to work and navigating bad relationships. While it is still a fantasy, it sells as a little more realistic than "billionaire-nepo-baby swoops into the life of blank slate ingénue" and I really enjoyed that. With the groundwork laid for more books in this series, I cant wait to read Griffons & Gains.
