NetGalley Review: A Touch Wicked by Katrina Kendrick

A Touch Wicked
A Touch Wicked by Katrina Kendrick

My Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

In what appears to be a minority opinion, this story as a full-length book was only, for me, an okay read. As a quick novella that features a semi-forbidden pairing and a little mistaken identity? This fits the bill as a fantastic romp in historical romance. As a full-length book with a full cast of characters and some manner of intrigue-based plot happening? Not so much.

Using the sex-club trope shorthands the "we come from different worlds" slow-burn into a full embrace of the "inta-love/lust"- love that for us readers. If the focus of the story was light conflict "she marries up" HEA with some tragic backgrounds for seasoning, I would have liked this book. The archetype-ness of the characters would have worked just fine and the plot would have been secondary to the spice which can be great. However, the plot of the missing sister and the alleged spy vs. spy action was not well developed and just sort of...happened *at* the characters and not *to* the characters. While there is a dramatic finish that helps rush the book to its conclusion. As a reader you walk away knowing nothing more about the espionage that created this whole kerfuffle than when you started on page one. I do appreciate the groundwork laid for other stories in the series, but having had similar feelings about A Bride by Morning, maybe this just isn't the series for me.
