My favorite part of working at the library (and a fan favorite when my kids were little) was the annual Summer Reading Program. While they don’t run such things for adults, I know my checkouts go way up in the summer months. Many of my summer picks were cookbooks and pattern books (which I generally don’t add to my book count unless they are for review) but there was some fiction in the mix.
American King by Sierra Simone ✩✩✩✩✩
I finished this up mostly out of a desire for closure on the series. Much like the second book, this one didn't do it for me the way the first one did. For such a fun premise, this book felt like really heavy furniture. Lots of angst and heartbreak just for all of it to wrap up exactly as one would expect in a HEA that is awfully trite. A lot of this is personal preference, and many readers feel this was perfection from page one, but I am glad to put this trilogy on my “done and dusted” pile. Now, am I queuing up Priest because Sierra Simone has mastered the art of “bonkers” romance? I 100% am!
A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall ✩✩✩✩✩
Listen. I know going into an Alexis Hall book that I am going to love it and well, so far everything has met expectations! I love a good historical romance, especially one that has a realistic conflict between the protagonists which can then lead to a non-red-flag-bearing HEA. Add in that our brave heroine is a transwoman and our brave hero is working on his mental illness? Swoon-worthy story!

I've heard such wonderful things about Alexis Hall, I need to try one of her books one day.
