So Many KU Summer Reads

I have been reading my heart out on Kindle Unlimited books, many recommended by BookTok/ SmutTok.  As always the books are hit and miss, but I have certainly had a great time beating the heat with a fun book, an iced coffee and cat cuddles.

Notes

Muscles and Monsters

Ashley Bennett

✩✩✩✩

A fun and quick read in an adorable world where humans and supernaturals co-exist.  This book doesn't take itself too seriously and therefore, is a super light and sexy read.  Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Titan

Jillian Graves

✩✩✩✩✩

This book was OK.  If you are in it for the idea of a Daddy-Dom gargoyle, then this is a  somewhat sexy read.  If you are in it for plot…it leaves something to be desired.  That is totally fine, I know which one of those I was there for, but personally the “plot” felt like a lot of work for a pairing whose chemistry didn't sizzle.

The Company of Fiends

Katherine Moon

✩✩✩✩

As a follow up to A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor, this continues in the same world, but does not converge much with the original cast.  The romance is hot, the world building is exquisite and fans of the first book will enjoy this one.  Moon certainly has found her niche and no one is mad about it.

Theirs for The Night

Katee Robert

✩✩✩✩

Quick little tale of a gal who has a MFM one-night stand, realizes she shagged a prince and his bodyguard/boyfriend.  Whoops!  This is obviously a set up for hijinks to follow and I will be reading the next book ASAP.

Forever Theirs

Katee Robert

✩✩✩✩✩

The tale of the one-night stand continues.  Realizing who her hookup are our brave protagonist gets dropped back into some political cross-double-cross with action, espionage and sex-cottages galore.  I didn't love this one as much as the first, I just wasn't here for the plot.

Theirs Ever After

Katee Robert

✩✩✩✩✩

I read this last book in this plot line (though there are several more in the series) just to finish up the story.  Again, the books gets hot and heavy into the plot which almost ruins the suspension of disbelief needed to enjoy a sexy tale of a polyamorous prince and his two consorts.  Given how amazing Robert’s most recent works have been, these earlier works just don't 100% hit the mark for me.

Purity

Skyler Mason

✩✩✩✩

This book is exactly what's on the tin.  Former purity culture devotee wants to hook up with a long-time friend/crush.  Said friend is into some less-vanilla sex stuff and balks at the idea.  Turns out, it's a match made in heaven.  There is a slightly YA feel to the dialog and simplicity to the plot, but it is about being in one’s early 20s and breaking free of forced naivety, so it works OK.

The Mistress of Pemberley

Delaney Jane and Chera Zade

✩✩✩✩✩

Solid premise that once Mr. and Mrs. Darcy head back to Pemberley, things get hot.  While this had the preliminary feeling of a slightly AU fanfic, it felt a little like it was working too hard at times.  Like, for all the sex that is happening on page, how is it so boring?  Many readers seemed to enjoy this so I will chalk it up to personal preference.

Pleasing Mr. Parker

Elle Nicoll

✩✩✩✩✩

If you want a standard “slightly not like other girls” protagonist who enters a  vaguely forbidden relationship with her “dominating” boss, this book is a fun way to spend an afternoon.   The plot and character development was OK. Not amazing, but plenty to be getting on with given what readers are here looking for.  All together this book straddled the fine line between “comfy romance tropes” and “what a cliche” pretty well.  I wouldn’t turn down another book in the series.

Snow Drop

Kylie Marcus

✩✩✩✩

I adore a plus-sized protagonist/second chance-enemies-to-lovers trope.  Add in that this is a novella that shorthands itself right to the fun resolution?  I am 100% in. Add this to your TBR pile for when you need a light read on a rainy afternoon.

Run, Run Rabbit

C.M. Nascosta

✩✩✩✩✩

This book is meant to be a companions series to the delightful cozy-romances of Cambric Creek.  It was pretty good and I didn’t mind seeing this author’s style translated to something a little darker.  I can't say I felt the chemistry between the main couple, but some werewolf lore hand waves that away well-enough.  There does appear to be some plot overlap between the series, so I look forward to more in the world that Nascosta has built.
