NetGalley Review: Fall I Want by Lyra Parish

Fall I WantFall I Want by Lyra Parish

My Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

This book started okay with some promise given the premise of "insta-lust/love", small town history and a touch of "tragic pasts." Alas, none of this lead to a great story. The characters didn't show much growth and often their "big moments" were just immature grandstanding. The story was tropey, but not in a good way. Instead of building a plot around the tropes, the topes served to handwave away need for plot development. Being swept into the arms of a billionaire hunk is only supposed to provide metaphorical shorthand on the logistics of real life, not completely rewire personalities and erase any conflicts. For a narrative where two fated lovers whirlwind into forever, the book was long and the spice was only middling. Given the high rating for most of the author's other books, this may just be a one-off, but this was not "fall I wanted" from a contemporary romance.
