A Return to Christmas Notch

Snow Place Like LASnow Place Like LA by Julie Murphy

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

Between the two novels in this series, this novella is a delightful little treat for when you are missing Christmas Notch and the world Murphy and Simone have built. It is sweet and hot with just enough conflict to make for a good story. Everyone acts like themselves, shows some growth and eventually work it out like adults while having hot sex. Perfection!

A Holly Jolly Ever AfterA Holly Jolly Ever After by Julie Murphy

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

Okay, this series is pretty cute and I generally like them all...however, this one just wasn't as good as A Merry Little Meet Cute or Snow Place Like LA.

The great parts:
  • "Teach me" trope- always a good time.
  • Returning to Christmas Notch- I love this band of misfits and the deranged Hallmark After Dark plotline
  • Murphy and Simone know their spice and how to write it
The not-so-great parts:
  • Surprise pregnancy trope- *puke emoji*
  • The characters are not the most mature- the second half of the book is borderline annoying, if you all are grown up enough for a shag, you are grown up enough to pick up the goddamn phone
  • Resolution is very dependent on too many coincidences and out of character actions
With all that said, it is still a fun holiday read and I would love to see additional books in The Christmas Notch Series.
