The Reluctant Countess by Eloisa James

The Reluctant Countess (Would-Be Wallflowers, #2)The Reluctant Countess by Eloisa James

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

Having loved How to Be a Wallflower and Not That Duke  I was excited to finish the trifecta. While I can't say I didn't enjoy The Reluctant Countess, it was not quite as strong a book as the other two in the series.

I really liked seeing Yasmin from the other side and getting a behind the scenes look at how she and Giles wound up together. With Stella's book being my most recent read, seeing the scavenger hunt and Silvester's courtship of Yasmin in this other lens was neat. I enjoyed Yasmin as a character and I generally like a "stoic/grumpy MMC has a secret soft spot for his local hellion" plotline. Giles here left me a bit underwhelmed, especially since (SPOILERS) 99% of his conflict could have been resolved by telling his horrid sister to jog on, but men who need therapy not magic romance to fix them is kind of the core tenet in historical romances, so it works fine. I think overall, that this book really only worked for me because I had read the third book before the second. Knowing what I was seeing in parallel made Yasmin's story MORE cohesive so I do wonder if that would have been an issue if I were reading in order.

In total though, I really liked the whole series and I can always say that an Eloisa James will be a solid historical read.
