Emily Rath's Jacksonville Rays Series

That One Night (Jacksonville Rays, #0.5)That One Night by Emily Rath

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

BookTok sent me searching for this series and it was everything that was promised.

This novella provides a quick spicy backstory to the first full novel in the series. Basically, our fair protagonists meet when they are both lonely, have an instant connection and shag the sad away. After a separation that lacks any closure, off they go their own live leaving the reader with an inkling that was not a standard no-strings fling. The spice is great and the chemistry is very well done for a story of this length.

Pucking Around (Jacksonville Rays, #1)Pucking Around by Emily Rath

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

Even though I have zero interest in sports in real life, I adore a sports romance. This MMFM "why choose" blends the fun of the hockey world, polyamory and maximum spice for a read that you will devour in one sitting (ask me how I know!).

Now I do have to say that this one requires a suspension of disbelief above and beyond the usual romance leeway. It is 700+ pages long and there is no way that anyone could act this unprofessional/immature as an adult and live to tell the tale. Additionally, if you really think about the characters for too long they are each uniquely exhausting. However, if you want to get the plot to hot four-ways, then some liberties must be taken.  (One also has to disregard how wildly unsafe this would all be in current-day Florida, but March was sure a different world!)

The spice makes up for the ridiculous plot and characters...so, just understand what you are getting here. This is smut with enough plot to make it a story instead of just a series of sexual encounters with no connection. I have no arguments with that, just realize what this book is meant to be before you delve in.
