Duke, Actually by Jenny Holiday
Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
A fantastic follow-on from Holiday’s A Princess for Christmas which I adored during the Yuletide 2021 season. Expanding the story of Max and Dani as they both navigate what happens when relationships end, plans change and sudden opportunities for change arise. This book really earned its stars because the “enemies to lovers” plot line features actual chemistry and banter that is funny, not just snark. The light application of “fake relationship,” “revenge date” and “our best friends’ wedding” make this a delightful read.

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
This SF/F romance got so many good reviews, but just didn't do it for me. The premise and world-building were interesting, but the characters just fizzled. I felt no chemistry between them, the banter was immature snark aided by all the supporting characters being girl-power archetypes and the plot felt slow until the resolution happened super fast!
