2021 by the Numbers

Now that the stats are in, let's look at what I injected directly into my literary brain this year.  The final numbers are based on Goodreads tracking which counts a ton of the Bridgerton Epilogues as separate books, but also didn’t list a handful of indie-published comics and graphic novels I read, so we can call it even.  The rounding for the percentages is “generous” (no need to get too picky about significant figures here), is based on total books listed in my Goodreads “Read2021” shelf, and just helps to get an idea of where my time was spent this year.

All in all:

        Books Read: 146

            Netgalley Books:

            Total: 70

            Read: 67 (46%)

        DNF*: 3 (2%)

            Non-Netgalley Books

        Total: 76 (52%)

     Genre Breakdowns**:

        Non-Fiction: 17 (12%)

    Cookbooks: 4 (3%)

    History/Social Science: 6 (4%)

    Magickal Practice: 4 (3%)

    Crafts: 3 (2%)

    Fiction: 129 (88%)

    Romance: 103 (71%)

    Mystery/Thriller 10 (7%)

    Literature 6 (4%)

    Sci-Fi/Fantasy: 10 (7%)

    Comics/Graphic Novels: 2 (1%)

Overall I split my reading pretty evenly between review ARCs and current market books.  Romance was by far the winner in terms of volume, and it is no secret that it is my favorite genre. This year brought me an introduction to BookTok which also led me to get into Kindle Unlimited.  The final jewel in my Romance Novel Immersion Crown is finding the Bonkers Romance podcast, which I highly recommend.

Not bad for a year of reading, here’s to more books in 2022!

*All three books were DNF due to fatphobia.  Being terrified of being fat is not a personality, a clever trait for femme-identifying protagonists or an acceptable basis for magickal practice.

**The numbers here won’t equal 100% because many books qualify for more than one genre.
