I have come to adore Stephanie Archer and this book was everything contemporary readers love in a sports romance. Hockey romance is hot right now, so it can be hard to do a prolific genre AND a prolific trend, but nothing here felt forced or overly tropey. Yes, we get a lot of classic tropes- snark that feels very immature, "enemies" to lovers, fake dating, second chance romance, tragic family pasts-all the traits that we love in books even if we would run like hell encountering any of this behavior in real life. Archer always kills it with the spice, and fans will not be disappointed by the hijinks Rory and Hazel get up to. Even though there is the usual amount of conflict, this book doesn't lean too hard into the manufactured crisis (people literally chose to stay places for relationships all the time, this is cozily realistic, not a forced grand gesture...love that!).There have been promises of books for several other characters and I can't wait!
