Surprisingly Good Reads

Her Orc Protector (Black Bear Clan #4)Her Orc Protector by Zoe Ashwood

Rating: ✩✩✩✩

I jumped into this series here in book 4 and I already can't wait to go back and read the entire collection. The premise is simple, I love a fated-mate and the way the trope can streamlines the romance so you can get right to the love and lust. Add in some layers of care/comfort, family dynamics and the nuances of an Orc with PTSD...this proves to be just as advertised, yet so much more, all at once.

The Dalwick DemonThe Dalwick Demon by Ashley Bennett

Rating: ✩✩✩✩

This a delightful little amuse-bouche of spicy romance for all the monster-f*cker lovers out there. The book is exactly what's on the tin and you are going to get a woman rescued by a monster, forced proximity and a mini-road trip lead to a HEA. While I agree with the critiques that the plot is improbable even with suspension and disbelief, and that the spice is somewhat repetitive, I still really liked it. Sometimes you just want a cozy novella where a nice lady gets railed by a demon.

The Basilisk of Star Manor: A Tempting Monsters StoryThe Basilisk of Star Manor: A Tempting Monsters Story by Kathryn Moon

Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩

Look, this series can apparently do no wrong for me. This little interstitial between books 1 and 2 of the Tempting Monsters Series gives us a quick love story between a snake-monster who can turn you to stone and the blind girl Star Manor matches to him. In a short format we get the reformation of a morally grey character (he is not a good guy, that's okay), some back-story and plot continuation from A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor and hot monster spice. This will hopefully tide me over until Sanctuary with Kings.
