NetGalley Review: Codename Charming by Lucy Parker

Rating:   ✩✩✩✩✩

If I were to hold up and example of why romance readers love the genre, this book would be the master class. I had not read a Lucy Parker before, and that was major oversight on my part. This nearly clean, but still very sexy, take on the "fake relationship" trope was a delight from start to finish.

The characters are well developed and have appropriately complex backstories, without any of it being trite. The main premise actually gets very little press when compared to the multiple entwining plots that are all playing out among the hilarious, and often disastrous, backdrop of the royal Marchmont family. Everything comes together neatly for many HEAs, but in a believable way. (Having everyone act out of character just to tie up the loose ends is a huge pet-peeve of mine, none of that here!)

All the romance genre highlights are hit: the clever use of tropes, well-written chemistry and the subtle odes to romantic classics weave together into a book I devoured in one sitting.

I have not read Lucy Parker yet either. This sounds great.
