Hold Me Today by Maria Luis
Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
Okay, maybe this book will make me take back my previous assessment of BookTok recommendations. This one uses the “unrequited childhood crush,” “friends to lovers,” and “fake dating” tropes. Basically, if “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” was a spicy romance, this is what you would get. I liked that the shared history lets us shortcut right to the good stuff and that the characters grow and change in ways that make sense for their personalities as written. I think the overall story relied way to heavily on the reality show sub-plot (the fake dating could have happened anyway, though I get that we have to meet Dom to continue the series) and the “banter” was borderline for me (the middle school sniping checks to chart since these two have a long history, but some of it was just silly). All together though, a solidly fun read that has me adding the other books in the series to my TBR list.

I'm glad you found a great BookTok suggestion. I also love Friends to lovers and fake dating tropes.
