As a break from books for review, sick kids, a sick me and car repairs I read a couple Kindle Unlimited titles that came recommended by BookTok. It was a bit of a mixed bag, but enjoying some less serious reading was just the break I needed!
Curvy Diversion by Aidy Award
Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
I wanted to like this book because it is always nice to find fat-girls representation (in a non-fetishy way) in romance books. This novella, and others by this author, were touted as smutty with hot guys and plus-sized women. For a novella, seemingly A LOT happens in as much as our fair protagonist completely uproots her life, redefines her entire sexual ethos, and embarks on exactly the type of relationship she claims to never want…all with a guy who did not get his act together to date her in the decade or so that they knew each other. Somehow, in just one day, they fall madly in love, have a ton of hot sex, survive a life-threatening storm and resolve all their emotional baggage. I mean, in 130-ish pages? Well done! The smuttiness was OK, but heavily focused on Danica doing wildly out of character sexual acts, that immediatley give her a rising sense of panic. Maybe I got a little too hopeful based on BookTok gushing about this series, but I don't think this author is my jam.

Keeping You by Lena Hendrix
Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
This full length novel set in Hendrix’s fictional town of Chikalu Falls was a pretty solid romance with a little more spice than “mainstream” romance novels. Using some fun tropes such as “one night that you can’t forget,” “small town gossip,” and “moody protagonist who could probably use SO MUCH therapy” this book does a solid job with world building, an OK job with character development and earns a middling score on the smut factor. If this book is any indication, this series is a fun, predictable in a good way, romp through all your favorite tropes and archetypes.
