September 2021 Reading "Roundup"

September was slow for non-ARC reading, but I did read The Two Income Trap by Elizabeth Warren and Amelia Warren Tyagi.  This was a very thorough dive into the mechanisms by which working class families can be running households with two full time workers, making solid financial decisions, yet still be one crisis away from bankruptcy.  It was a fascinating read that provides the political background to how we all wound up here.  It was also very interesting to see what passed for financial planning and economic speculation in the halcyon days of 2003.  Little did anyone know that five years later, the whole system would tank in spectacular ways.  My heart also ached to see that this well-educated, experienced and down-to-earth person could have been our president (especially since readers of this book will 100% recognize Biden's Infrastructure Plan as a direct copy of Warren's work from almost 20 years prior), but...mommy issues or whatever.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking to start down the path of dual-income adulthood as a guide to help evaluate the merits and risks of building a middle-class life that depends on 100 hours of combined paid employment a week.
