August 2021 Reading Roundup (wherein I become Addicted to Kindle Unlimited)

The first five on the August reading list are from Kindle Unlimited which I am thoroughly enjoying.  Basically, for the price on one paperback a month I have seemingly unlimited access to as many romance novels as my hear desires.  Most of my reading this month was historicals (for they are my first romance love), but TikTock has pointed me towards some contemporary and/or sci-fi/fantasy titles to try.

These three are pretty standard historical reads, though I plan to go back the series and authors for further reading. I am assigning them these as 3-star reads because while I liked them, and definitely plan to read more, nothing has stood out to make them more than solid, fun-to-chill-with, romances.

Lady Ruthless (Notorious Ladies of London, #1)by Scarlett Scott ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
This one was a decent, though enjoyable read and I look forward to more in the series.

A stand-alone regency with a fun take on the "arranged marriage trope." While this doesn't appear to be a series, this author is quite prolific and I have a few more titles on my TBR pile.

The Look of Love (Book of Love, #1) by Meara Platt  ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
My favorite of the KU historicals I read this month! While it was a little much at times (the dissonance between "we are ladies who know nothing of men" vs. how said ladies often behaved being a bit hard to swallow) I adore the premise that a nonsense book on love will propel the series.

My Dirty Duke  by ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
This novella was also contained in the anthology Duke I'd Like to F..., though I was happy to read it again. TW: questionable age difference, which is contextually fine here, but may be a no-go for others.

 Stalked by the Kraken by Lillian Lark ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Look, it is kinky monster porn in a setting that is based almost entirely on monster f*%king. Exactly what is on the label. Five pepper emoji spicy, good stuff.

These last two are paperback ARCs that picked up at out library book sale a long time ago, and finally got to them when we hit the beach.

No Other Duke But You (Playful Brides, #11) by Valerie Bowman ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
A fun "comedy of errors" style story featuring a dramatic play, misguided matchmaking and a protagonist who is a delightful hot-mess.

The Duke Is But a Dream (Debutante Diaries, #2) by Anna Bennett ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
I had not read a historical where it is the female protagonist who suffers dramatic amnesia, and this book based on that premise was a really fun read.

Back to KU, I spent the last weekend of the month reading Lola and the Millionaires: Part One and Lola and the Millionaires: Part Two by Katherine Moon. Moon is quickly becoming a must-read author for me. I will be doing her Librarian"s Coven series next and cant wait for her second book in the Tempting Monsters series to release in the spring. ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

August was a busy book month!
