My April reads that weren't ARCs:
This was a fascinating look not only at the structural discrimination that holds women back, but at the lack of actual data on gendered differences. In everything from public transit use to the size of keyboards, the standard is assumes to be "average white dude" and all the rest of us can just jog on. The book provided qualitative and quantitative analysis of how women fall through the cracks in research and why that leads to worse outcomes for everyone.
Duke of my Heart by Kelly Bowen ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
A great romance featuring a well written mystery. Often when the genres combine, book miss the mark on both aspects, but this one blends the mystery, the romance, the action and the tropey backstories very well.
A fantastic collection of comics! The stories are touching and exciting while the artwork is divine.
Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Look, this whole series is amazing. I don't need to sing Julia Quinn's praises to her loyal audience. I will say this was my favorite pairing and Penelope may always be my favorite character in this series. I could have lived without the constant references to Penelope losing her "baby fat" (I generally give a book an immediate DNF for fatphobia, and here it isn't even historically accurate), but it was published in the height of the 0% body fat/low rise jeans phase of the world, so I can chalk it up to everyone pretty much sucking in the late 90s and early 00s.
