This book had lots of romance favorites: road trips, characters with intriguing pasts and happy endings. However, as a whole, it fell short for me due to the mystery/thriller aspect. While 90% of the book is a delightful romance, the last little bit is a quick and disjointed sprint to include some part of the trilogy’s central theme into the book. Had this story been merely tangential to the series plot, or contained more interwoven aspects of the series plot, it would have been a five star read. As it stands the ending feels rushed and unconnected to the rest of the plot.
I am still excited to see the third book in the series, and overall this was a nice read, this one just felt unpolished.
