This one was a DNF for me. My first by this author, and based on reviews of previous works I really thought it would be better. Not only was it very slow, full of characters whose entire personality was “caricature of a mean rural person,” but every other thought had by the protagonist was about dieting. I am not interested in slogging through a slow moving mystery just so I can hear a woman indulge in internalized fatphobia for 200 pages.
