I feel like I say this a lot, but this was another decent historical romance that just didn’t hit for me.
I have heard great things about this series and author, so I was expecting...more? With the disclaimer that I still really enjoyed reading the book, I found it very hard to see past the archetypal hero and the somewhat implausible plot. I mean, we get it, the Scottish men are down to earth brutes and all the English are snotty weaklings...that isn't actually character development. Add in timelines that don't work and a HEA that seems to require everyone to suddenly change everything about their fundamental selves and well...even by standards of romantic suspension of disbelief, this was a miss.
Fans of the series may feel differently, but as a standalone, there are better highland romances out there.
