This book was a decent read in traditional romance novel style, but just didn't do it for me.
I did like: the bookish protagonist, the story of the bookshop and the humor with which the mother-daughter relationship was handled. The friend group of our fair protagonist was great and I would like to see other books in this series with those women in starring roles. There was a lot of promise in this novel, it felt like good bones and a solid story.
I didn’t like: the “lust at first sight” felt a bit much (even by the suspension of disbelief standards of romance books) and I found the male protagonist to be a bit of a boundary pusher right off the bat. The happily ever after, even though it is generally expected, felt a bit too “and then everyone totally changed their very character so everyone could be happy.” This made the resolution feel rushed as compared to the rest of the fairly well laid out plot.
I look forward to reading another by this author. Previous reviews of her work indicate this might have just been a miss for me and not indicative of her general style or skill.
