The Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe

This is the second book in the "Uptown Girls" series, since I am limited to e-books from the library right now, I started this series our of order. I didn't dislike it, and it stands alone as a novel, but I am curious to see if the previous book is ...better?  Having head so much praise for Shupe, I was surprised at how little I liked this pairing/plot.  Maybe I am missing some backstory, but these two did not inspire a lot of desire to see them wind up happily ever after.

While I liked the premise, both the woman venturing out into the man's world of business and the revenge plot, I didn't love how they meshed.  I guess i just find it hard to imagine that Florence would knowingly enter an arrangement with a man who aims to take down her family as if she can be some kind of impartial observer to that process.  Either you also want your family to fail, or you don't.  While I loved the "all cards on the table" set up where everyone knows where they stand, even in terms of the mutual attraction, these two just couldn't get it sorted.

I am waiting for the first book in the series now, I will have to see how I feel after I read that one.  Hopefully this was just a one-off since I was really looking forward to digging into this author's expansive back catalog.
