The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel by Alyssa Palumbo

As a fan of classic Gothic tales, and a good retelling from unheralded women, The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel hit all the right spots.  This retelling of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from the perspective of Miss Van Tassel is a brilliant twist on the classic tale.  All your favorite characters are there, but this time the story is presented from the perspective of the previously inconsequential women.  You see all the characters through new eyes, as women scorned by fear and allegations of witchcraft, and men convinced by the patriarchy that they know what is best.   The book is at once, feminist, spooky, insightful, romantic and supernatural.  Put this one on you TBR pile!
